Leo: What are you doing, Maya?
Maya: I’m just tidying my bedroom.
Leo: Er, Maya, what’s all the stuff in this big bag?
Maya: It’s rubbish. They’re things I don’t need any more.
Leo: But you can’t just put everything in one big bag! You have to sort it into different piles, and you should recycle as much as you can.
Maya: Oops … yeah … I forgot.
Leo: Shall I help you?
Maya: Yes, please, Leo.
Leo: Well, let’s start with this plastic bottle. It can go in the plastic pile.
Maya: Oh, yeah, of course. Plastic bottles can be recycled.
Leo: But it’s even better if you don’t use them. You should use the reusable bottle that Mum gave you.
Maya: Oh, yes, it’s here!
Leo: Now, what are these?
Maya: They’re my old drawings. I don’t want them any more.
Leo: OK, so that’s paper. They can go here, on the paper pile. And we can put these old posters in paper recycling too.
Maya: And these books? They’re made from paper ...
Leo: Well, somebody else could read them. We can give old books to a charity shop.
Maya: Oh yes, good idea. And what about these toys and clothes? Shall we give them to the charity shop too?
Leo: Yes, of course.
Maya: Great. Let’s ask Mum to take us in the car after lunch.
Leo: This stuff isn’t heavy, and the charity shop isn’t far … we could walk. It’s much better to walk than to go by car.
Maya: Yep! It’s better for the planet! And then we can go to the park on the way home!
